The 2016 Ford Heritage Day on 5th November.
Great news for the old Ford enthusiasts! Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa have contacted the Model ‘A’ Club of South Africa in an effort to show genuine interest in their heritage – this is a rarity among the major motor manufacturers, and their gesture is welcomed.
They are sponsoring a “Ford Heritage Day” to be hosted at the Vintage and Veteran Club in Johannesburg, and we would like to see as many of the old Fords there please – in particular, anything older than Model ‘T’, Model ‘T’, Model ‘A’, and Model ‘B’. Other old Fords up to 1950 are also welcome.
The event will take place on 5th November, and Ford are arranging some top media people to be there. Ford will sponsor a meal for each driver and his/her passenger. There will be a cash bar available.
What is this event all about?
This will be a fun day for car owners and media, promoting the Ford brand, and the heritage of both the club and the Ford marque in SA. It’s a first for any such type of club in SA in terms of media involvement, and is really an opportunity for the club to put their hands on their hearts and scream true-blue! It’s a day for Ford passion and heritage, and we encourage owners to bring cars, memorabilia, old stories – what it means to them to be a part of this iconic Model family. We are looking for ambassadors happy and proud to share the day with us. If we get this right it will be shared with the massive internal Ford world too, from Detroit to Shanghai the pics and stories will do the rounds. Ford will also have their Enterprise story writer there for nuggets of info which will lead to Ford SA distributing official releases as opportunities arise. This could become a truly exciting event!
What’s in it for you, as a car owner?
This is an opportunity to expose the cars and the owners’ passion for the brand to media. The media will publicise the event on various social media and print channels, making for a nice opportunity for owners to show their metal. They would normally attend a meet like Angela’s Picnic and be lost among the sea of metal, this is a dedicated day for them that they will own. It’s also something the club can use to help market its effort to the public too through the exposure. Not to mention it being an opportunity to forge a relationship between Ford SA and the club.
What does Ford want from us?
Ford would just like the cars there and media taken for a drive in them if at all possible. If media get to drive a kilometre or two, bonus!
What is the plan for the day?
We are planning two types of display: 25 static vehicles, 25 chauffeur-driven rides.
The media are being invited to attend, and these will be in the form of lifestyle media, bloggers, motoring media, dealer principles, and Ford staff.
Tentative running order:
08h00 : Car owners to set up in the static display area.
09h00 : Media & press arrive and gather in hall for coffee & arrival snacks
09h30 : Presentation starts inside Hall.
10h30 : The ride & drive starts
12h00 : Lunch/Braai to be ready for serving. Soft drinks in the bar area, braai will take place in the courtyard area.
12h30 : Ride and drive stops, Drivers to be served lunch.
13h30 : Thank you / Farewell (handover of gift)
